Hanging On and Letting Go

When a group is formed there is a dynamic that is seen by all and one that is not. When that group ceases to exist the unseen dynamic becomes visible. If you choose to look at it from the perspective of observer you begin to see the wants and wishes of the other people and how some cling on to an idea that no longer exists, to those who were able to see and move on, and to those who just took what was offered, but without sustenance required to move the idea forward.

I see this dynamic as a tree. The tree represents the idea everyone all had. The tree gives life and vitality and the people have the option to nurture and support the tree or take from it without ensuring its survival. Within these two branches are even more branches. Within those who want to nurture and support are those who would willingly give up their own live and vitality to see the idea move forward in compensation for those who take just to take.

Within all of this I wish people could see that the tree, the idea is within us. It is not something external to be worshiped or something that we must attain to feel whole or complete. It is within us. The idea within each of us must be nourished and supported for it to take root in the world. The idea is what each of us strive to accomplish in life. There is a certain progression of events before the idea can come to fruition and that is you must start with the roots. The idea is a seed and it needs to be planted and treated like it is a seed. It must begin within the earth, drawing in the required sustenance for the idea to take root and then begin to grow. You cannot pull on the new shoot to make it move faster, the plant will just become unrooted and you will have to start again with the roots.

Sometimes, ideas do not work and they never take root, but this does not mean it is a failure, you just need to try again until you find a way to meet your goals. Just because one way does not work doesn't mean another way won't too. If you cling to one idea too much, life often steps in and makes the choices for you when you cannot or will not let go.

When you cling to something out of fear it is like you are holding onto a stone in the middle of a swiftly moving river, desperately trying to swim the opposite direction of the current. Eventually, you can no longer hold on and the river brings you to another point, but the road you took to get there is much harder than it otherwise would have been. However, you may have learned more that way or may belief that life is out to get you. It is your choice in what you want to believe.

This is only a small portion of the world I interact with, but I can see it reflected everywhere. It can be seen in the news, in politics, in the schools, and in our daily lives. There are people who want to take without giving back, people who want to give too much of themselves, people who constantly are putting band-aids on the problem, and the people who do nothing. I don't have the answers to our world. I don't even have the answer to the small scale dynamic that was within my own life. What I do know is that we each have a choice about what we can do with our own lives and how we can react. Maybe it is time we make a different choice because what we have doesn't seem to be working.
