The Art of Clearing a Room

I recently walked into a building that just felt plain funky to me. There was nothing overtly wrong with the place. On the surface everything looked great, but deep down, I knew something wasn't right for me at least. I'm a stickler when it comes to cleanliness - at least energetically. It could be my background as an energy therapist or it could be that I'm just sensitive to energetics. Both may be true depending on who you ask. As a result, I've found some excellent ways to clear a room energetically. I've found they really make a difference. Even those who are not so sensitive to the energies tend to notice, but can't really pul a finger on it.

1. Essential Oils
One of the easiest ways to clear a room is to put between 10-15 drops of essential oil in a 4 oz spray bottle with distilled water. Be sure to shake the bottle before each use since oil and water don't mix. Spray the mixture around the room to clear it. This not only works in clearing the room, but also makes it smells fabulous! Be careful on using this method on people sensitive to fragrance.

2. Sound
This is one of the easiest and most effective ways in clearing a room. It can be as simple as clapping your hands to break up the energetics to as sophisticated as having a crystal singing bowl filling the room with divine melodies.

Anything that makes sound will work: your voice (by toning), drums, rattles, metal or crystal singing bowls, tuning forks, or even thunder makers.  Sound is phenomenal in clearing energies out of a room and changing the structure. If you are not sure what to use, try different instruments and see what you feel works best for you.

3. Sage and Sweet Grass
This is probably one of the best known techniques for clearing out energies. Using sacred sage that is dried and then burned to clear out any energies from a room works very well and does make the room smell nice. However, if you have people sensitive to smell, it is not the best option. I have also had people think the sage smells like a very well loved recreational drug.

By burning the sage first you clear out the energies of the room, then follow it by burning the sweet grass to fill the room with new energies.

4. Burning of a Candle
Simply place a candle in the room you'd like to clear and light it. Please remember to always use caution when using this method. An unattended candle has the potential of starting a fire.

As an energy therapist, I use all of these methods. When I come into a new space I always start with the sage to clear the energies and then follow it up with sound, usually from a metal or crystal singing bowl.

As a day to day cleanser I use the essential oil spray bottle method (unless I'm seeing a client sensitive to scent, in which case I will use sound).

All of these methods can be amplified by setting an intention before you cleanse. You can think of the way you want the room to feel or you can have a specific thought such as "clear the room of anything that does not serve me or the divine." It is really up to you what you want the intention to be.

All mentioned methods can be used interchangable. I would suggest experimenting with all of them and seeing what works for you.

If anyone else has other suggestions to add, I would love to hear about them!
