The Quick Fix
A pill. These days, there is just about a pill for everything, even the common cold. If you have a headache, take a pill. If you have a stomachache, take a pill. If you have heart burn, take a pill. There is literally a pill for every ailment imaginable. I would even argue there is a pill for things that don't yet or never will exist. If you can be convinced something is wrong with you and there is a pill to fix it, there is someone who will take it. It is the old fashioned snake oil. Who is going to buy into it? Someone will.
In having so many pills and drugs available, what does this do to our mindset? Take the common cold for instance. We catch a cold, now what do you do? Do you rest and get better? Or do you go to the doctor and try to get a pill? For what? A cough? Congestion? Just name your symptom and take your drug of choice.
We've created a society that believes all their problems can be fixed quickly and without doing the work. I've seen this mentality in all types of people, even those seeking alternative methods of healing. There have been many times I've seen people seeking to be "healed" by the work I do as an energy therapist. They are seeking the quick fix that will make all their pain (physically, emotionally, and mentally) just go away. Unfortunately, this is not what I do. I can't make the pain and suffering a person feels just magically go away. I can't wave a magic wand, say "alacazam" and have everything be better. It just doesn't work that way.
You can get better and you can heal yourself, but it is rarely quick and it is rarely easy, but it is possible if you are willing to look within, and for those who are willing, the rewards are great.
Healing is better than taking a pill. Healing goes deep within you and not only manifest physically, but on all levels. Healing goes deep. It has the potential of finding those dark corners that you don't want to face, shedding light onto areas where you were afraid to go and then realizing that it's not so scary. This is what true healing does. In the same token, it is like an onion. Once you shed the outer layer, there is another layer within, the deeper you go into those layers, the more you find, but in finding more, the more you heal. It is a very beautiful process. It may not always be easy, but once you're on the other side of your healing, you realize that it was worth it.
So, the next time you are finding misery in your situation are you going to reach for a pill or are you going to look within? The choice is your and neither one is wrong or right.
